The Designers Institute of New Zealand’s ‘Best Awards’ recognise excellence in design from the best of New Zealand’s designers across many categories, from outstanding product and graphic design through to work from design students.
Player is a finalist in both the product design and sustainable design categories. Based on mix-n-match options, Player gives people many more possibilities in their bedroom designs; it allows personal choice and style to influence each design.

Player is about play, selecting from a range of different frame, headboard, leg, removable upholstery and accessory options to create a personalised look. Each bed design can be added to, or changed at any time, accessing many more creative bedroom styles for changes in seasons, moods or environments. Personalisation and fun embody the character of Player.

The accompanying Player furniture is elegant and contemporary with unique adaptability. Drawers are generously sized, highlighting the vibrant and flowing Rimu heart timber. Drop in metal trays can be used to create split level drawers. Other accessories include anodised aluminium magazine racks, bedside trays and draw dividers.

Removable upholstery for the Player frame is made from New Zealand wool in four distinctive colour ways, inspired by unique textures and tones found in nature.

Player is crafted from New Zealand native Rimu timber, heli-harvested from sustainably managed forests to eliminate damage to forest eco-systems. For every bed or bedroom furniture suite sold, Okooko sees that a native tree is planted somewhere in New Zealand with the help of local councils. To date they have planted over 50,000 trees through their Plant a Tree programme.

Okooko beds and bedroom furniture such as the Player range are designed in New Zealand by both in-house and external designers. Manufacture is based at Okooko in Tauranga. Okooko is accredited with international ISO standards for quality (ISO9001) and environmental practices (ISO14001), they use natural materials and processes wherever possible (e.g. natural latex, organic bamboo, wool) sourced from sustainable business partners with the same sustainable ethics throughout New Zealand and around the world.
